Dr Robert Lin grew up in Brisbane and attended Brisbane State High where he was a school prefect. He then went to the University of Queensland and obtained a Bachelor of Dental Science degree in 2009. After graduating, Robert spent some time working for Queensland Health in 2010 to further hone his skills in oral surgery and emergency dental treatment. Since then he has also worked in private practices in Townsville, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney.
Robert likes to make appointments light hearted and comfortable for the patient. He takes pride in ensuring that his patients feel at ease and enjoys using his growing knowledge to answer any questions they may have. Robert has a holistic approach to dentistry which includes examining the patient’s breathing, sleep, head, neck and TMJ as he understands that being a dentist is more than just treating the teeth but examining the overall health of the patient. Robert is focused on making his patients healthy because he suffered from many medical and dental issues which were directly related and can be diagnosed and treated successfully. Dr Lin is highly committed to his continuing professional development hence travels both interstate and internationally to attend dental and medical courses and reads many books and journals.
He is skilled in all areas of general dentistry, however, his passion is in breathing and sleep, dentofacial orthopedics and airway and functional orthodontics to create healthy patients with beautiful faces and smiles, not just straight teeth. To achieve this, Robert has undertaken numerous years of part-time post-graduate study around the world and is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA), Australasian Academy for Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP), International Association for Orthodontics (IAO), and the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics (IADFE). Robert is also an advisor to the IAO education committee and assistant professor at Universitat Jaume I in Spain.
In 2018 Dr Lin successfully achieved his fellowship with the IAO and soon after was invited to join the teaching faculty at the International Academy of Advanced Dentistry (IAADent) which teaches comprehensive orthodontic and implant courses in Sydney most weekends of the year. In addition, Dr Lin is the principle lecturer of the IAADent Orthodontics Brisbane Study Club which consists of dentists from all over South East Queensland. For more information on IAADent please visit https://www.iaadent.com/ In 2020 Dr Lin received his fellowship from the IADFE which recognises the top 50 doctors from around the world in facial esthetics.
In 2022 Dr Lin successfully completed his Masters in Orthodontics with a sub-specialty in Dentofacial Orthopaedics from Universitat Jaume I in Spain. This enables Robert to practice airway and functional orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, which are not taught at universities in Australia. In addition, Dr Lin published a scientific article on airway and functional orthodontics in an international journal to demonstrate to fellow dental professionals his treatment techniques are evidence-based, safe and the many ways it improves the general health and well-being of patients. Finally, Dr Robert Lin authored a 105 page Master’s Thesis on airways and obstructive sleep apnoea by examining over 300 scientific articles and analyzing over 700 patients’ sleep study reports and 3D airway scans. These are some examples of why Dr Robert Lin is widely renowned as “The Airway Dentist” from Australia.
